JOB SUMMARY
Perform a variety of duties pertaining to the cleanliness and upkeep of the museum's physical space. Prepare areas for classes and special events, and perform related duties as required by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/DUTIES- Keep gallery/exhibition spaces, administrative offices, classrooms, lavatories, and hallways clean and orderly.
- Sweep, mop, and polish floors, operate machinery to strip and wax floors, and operate a vacuum cleaner to maintain rugs.
- Dust furniture, sills, etc.; assure that all dispensers (soap and paper) are filled; remove all trash and litter daily; replace light bulbs as needed; and move furniture and light equipment as required.
- Routinely arrange and set up tables and related items for classrooms, special events, or other functions occurring across the Museum, and break down and store all furniture and related items.
- As required, sweep and shovel steps and walks, and distribute sand and salt on steps and walkways in case of snow, as needed.
- Perform related duties as required by the supervisor.
- Ability to operate machines used in cleaning and special training in the use of cleaning products.
- Strong communication skills and ability to interact effectively with a public audience.
- Ability to work effectively independently as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to develop positive and respectful working relationships with students, staff, and faculty throughout a diverse community.
- Ability to demonstrate and model good safety practices.
- Scheduling flexibility, including participating in rotations to cover after-hours functions, weekends, and events.
- Sensitivity to, and respect for, working in close proximity to artworks in gallery spaces with commensurate training.
- Basic computer skills and/or the willingness to attend training and adapt to using required technology (e.g., Checking work email, using College supported enterprise systems such as Workday, etc.).
- High School Diploma or equivalency
- One year of related work experience
