Overview
The Clinical Manager directs nursing care and coordinates resources for a specified unit and performs administrative activities while providing leadership and support to staff. The Clinical Manager has 24-hour responsibility of one or more patient units for directing and coordinating resources for the delivery of care to the patients and families. Collaborates and supports the health care team in the delivery of quality, patient-focused care as evidenced by driving Patient Safety initiatives by reporting sentinel events, participating in root cause analysis, promoting evidenced-based practices, and managing incident reporting; develops role definitions for staff consistent with scope of practice; analyzes data to identify opportunities for improvement in patient care; enhances unit performance by encouraging education and implementation of new concepts and technology;
provides leadership in the development of policies, procedures, standards of care and critical paths to promote a positive patient outcome. - Human Resource Management:
Facilitates and evaluates human capital to provide quality, cost efficient patient care; collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to foster staff development; identifies and resolves nursing care conflicts related to the unit; facilitates staff meetings; provides support, coaching and professional growth to the Assistant Clinical Manager for leadership development; oversees staff evaluations and developmental goals; identifies staff educational needs and promotes continuing education and lifelong learning;
leads the development of the credentialing process and assesses compliance with unit standards; demonstrates respect for Rhode Island Hospital policies, procedures, union contracts and standards of professional nursing practice; participates in staff recruitment and retention; conducts disciplinary action consistent with hospital policies. - Financial Management:
Uses resources effectively to provide cost-efficient delivery of high-quality services; encourages financial conscientiousness; monitors staff compliance to schedule through weekly payroll; creates and monitors the budget; forecasts future revenue and expenses; utilizes staffing matrices to maximize productivity and reduce waste; conducts ongoing evaluation of productivity. - Departmental/Organizational Support:
Develops short and long-term goals in collaboration with the Director; provides scheduled off-shift managerial coverage; directs and supervises unit staff for all shifts; communicates unit operations, activities, and issues to the Director; participates in unit management meetings; engages in shared decision making that supports a just culture and shared governance; collaborates with nursing faculty to facilitate student educational needs; participates in…
