Clinical Manager Adolescent Behavioral Health

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Manager directs nursing care and coordinates resources for a specified unit and performs administrative activities while providing leadership and support to staff. The Clinical Manager has 24-hour responsibility of one or more patient units for directing and coordinating resources for the delivery of care to the patients and families. Responsibilities
  • Patient Focus, Human Resource Management, Financial Management, Departmental/Organizational Support, Clinical Practice Management/Development, and Human Capitol Development.
  • Performance Improvement: Collaborates and supports the healthcare team in delivery of quality, patient‑focused care as evidenced by:
    Driving Patient Safety initiatives by reporting sentinel events, participating in root‑cause analysis, promoting evidence‑based practices and managing incident reporting;
    Developing role definitions for staff consistent with scope of practice;
    Analyzing data and identifying opportunities for improvement in patient care;
    Enhancing unit performance by encouraging education and implementation of new concepts and technology;
    Providing leadership in the development of policies, procedures, standards of care and critical pathways to promote a positive patient outcome.
  • Human Resource Management

    Skills:

    Facilitates and evaluates human capital to provide quality, cost‑efficient patient care;
    Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to foster staff development;
    Identifies and resolves nursing care conflicts related to the unit;
    Facilitates staff meetings that engage staff members on topics and issues important to unit success;
    Provides support, coaching and professional growth to the Assistant Clinical Manager;
    Provides oversight of staff evaluations and developmental goals;
    Identifies staff educational needs and works with leadership to promote continuing education and lifelong learning;
    Leads development of credentialing process and assesses compliance with unit standards;
    Demonstrates respect for Rhode Island Hospital policies, procedures, union contracts and professional nursing standards;
    Plays active role in staff recruitment and retention and conducts disciplinary action consistent with hospital policies.
  • Financial Management Core Behaviors: Effectively utilizes resources to provide cost‑efficient delivery of high‑quality services;
    Encourages financially conscientious staff and participation in cost‑effective ideas and plans;
    Monitors staff compliance to schedule through weekly payroll;
    Creates and monitors the budget; foresees future revenue and expenses, utilizes staffing matrix to maximize staff productivity and eliminate waste; conducts ongoing evaluation of productivity.
  • Departmental/Organizational Support: Responsible to the organizational plan for development of short and long‑term goals;
    Collaborates with Director to provide off‑shift managerial coverage;
    Directs and supervises unit staff for all shifts;
    Identifies and resolves nursing care conflict and problems;
    Communicates status of unit operations, activities and issues to the Director;
    Participates in unit management meetings and recommends fiscal and patient care objectives, standards and goals;
    Engages in shared decision making that supports a just culture and shared governance;
    Collaborates with nursing faculty to facilitate student education;
    Participates in policy, procedure and standard development;
    Influences nursing practice through professional organization participation.
