The Senior Director of College Admission leads and oversees the Office of College Admission in partnership with the Dean of Undergraduate Admission. The incumbent is primarily responsible for the operations and management of the Office - including supervising several managers and teams of admissions officers - and ensuring the University successfully recruits, selects, and enrolls diverse classes of students in alignment with the University's goals.
The Senior Director leads efforts to hire, onboard, and develop staff in the Office to ensure the admission officers consistently and equitably review applications and to ensure the admissions process operates seamlessly for the applicants and staff. In support of these goals, the incumbent will perform the following responsibilities in consultation with the Dean or delegate these responsibilities appropriately:
- Assigning reading portfolios and targets to the admissions officers;
- Monitoring progress of admissions officers on their assignments and reading goals;
- Communicating with staff around their goals, progress, and any identified issues or concerns;
- Communicating in a timely manner with applicants regarding pertinent information and deadlines; and
- Coordinating committee meetings focused on collating feedback and making final decisions on admissions applications.
The incumbent will serve as a representative of the Office of College Admission and the broader Enrollment Division on University leadership bodies and may stand-in for the Dean of Undergraduate Admission as needed.
Qualifications:
- Advanced degree required in a relevant field.
- 12+ years of progressive responsibility in highly selective college admissions. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Excellent communication skills
- An understanding of national and international demographic trends impacting the undergraduate admission applicant pool
- Must be familiar and comfortable with database systems and data analysis
- Ability to provide cross-functional leadership and help create, implement, and maintain a comprehensive vision for undergraduate admissions operations that aligns with the University's strategic plan
- Evidence of creative strategic thinking, demonstrated experience in personnel and financial management
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong commitment to promoting institutional diversity
- Expert knowledge of policies, practices and laws governing admissions, student records, and related student information systems
- Proven ability to manage large teams of professional staff
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize others (e.g., staff, faculty, students) to achieve shared results
- Record of innovation and creative problem solving, and strategic thinking and planning
- Strong organizational, administrative, and time management skills
- Aptitude for utilizing technology and effectively managing complex budgets
- Willingness to remain informed of best practices, engage with professional networks, and contribute to improving practice across higher education
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including some nights and weekends
Salary Grade: 14
