Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Operations Engineer
Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, Power Plant, the operator runs a microprocessor-controlled medical waste autoclave system, monitors performance using gauges, valves, video displays, and visual observations, cleans, inspects, maintains, and repairs high-pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment such as conveyors, scrubbers, and hydraulic drive augers. The operator ensures that the system operates within the guidelines mandated by the Division of Environmental Management and maintains the values of Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence.
Responsibilities- Conduct visual inspections in the medical waste autoclave room and check status of all equipment.
- Maintain close surveillance of bearing temperatures, oil pressures, and temperatures via microprocessor-based controls.
- Record readings from all gauges and meters, including steam and electricity consumption.
- Inspect pumps, fans, augers, conveyors, and hydraulics; lubricate moving parts as required.
- Inspect boilers for water residue, worn or clogged valves, and correct chemical mix.
- Clean boilers, pipes, valves, and remove unburned materials from burners.
- Perform routine maintenance—lubrication, repair, and replacement—on ancillary equipment such as steam, water, air, and oil valves throughout the power plant, boiler room, and autoclave spaces.
- Basic knowledge of thermodynamics of steam, hydraulics, electricity, and mechanical repair skills.
- Understanding of Division of Environmental Air Quality regulations and ability to interpret maintenance specifications.
- High school diploma or vocational school completion.
- One to two years of training in boiler and/or incinerator plant operations from technical school or military service.
- Minimum three years of experience, including one to two years in boiler operations and mechanical repair.
- Boiler Operator’s License.

Pay Range: $36.07 – $45.28 per hour
