Rhode Island for Community and Justice (RICJ) is a non‑profit organization located in Providence, Rhode Island. RICJ is the only organization dedicated to supporting Juvenile Hearing Boards (JHBs) throughout Rhode Island and works directly with RI youth to teach them about community supports, foster connections, and prepare for life after high school. JHBs are a post‑arrest diversion opportunity for any youth less than 18 years old facing misdemeanor charges;
JHBs help the youth repair the harm of their offense, learn how to avoid making similar mistakes in the future, and leave the system with no juvenile record. RICJ supports JHBs statewide by promoting information sharing between the JHBs located in different cities and towns, through case management partnerships, and through granting JHBs additional resources, such as funding for therapy.
Additionally, RICJ collects data to ensure JHBs are effectively helping youth in all corners of our state.
The ideal candidate for this role has experience in the youth justice system, a genuine desire to help youth, and familiarity with restorative justice. Both oral and written communication skills for a wide range of audiences (e.g. youth, law enforcement, parents) are essential for success in this position.
