AS220 Program

The AS220 Ameri Corps Program provides opportunities for Creative Pathways Volunteers to serve within a community-based arts organization in Providence, Rhode Island. Volunteers support AS220’s work with young people, artists, and community members while developing skills through hands-on service, training, mentorship, and collaborative projects. Volunteers serve primarily within one of three areas: AS220 Youth, Community Studios, or Galleries. In AS220 Youth, they support creative learning environments, co-facilitate workshops and activities, build relationships with young people, and assist with outreach, documentation, events, and youth-led projects.

In Community Studios, they support welcoming shared creative spaces, assist with workshops and orientations, and help community members access tools, equipment, and creative resources. In Galleries, they support exhibition preparation and installation, gallery operations and events, visitor engagement, artist and exhibition documentation, communications, and related projects. Volunteers receive structured orientation, ongoing supervision, training, feedback, and opportunities to reflect on their service and professional goals.

Training may include AS220’s history and values, community arts practices, youth leadership, strengths-based and restorative approaches, accessibility, relationship-building, and collaborative problem-solving. Each member will have an opportunity to develop and complete a project connected to their service area with guidance from AS220 staff. Projects will respond to program or community needs while providing opportunities to apply skills, take initiative, collaborate, and contribute to AS220’s work.

Through their service, Volunteers will contribute to AS220’s capacity to provide creative opportunities and accessible community spaces while gaining practical experience in community-based arts, creative programming, youth development, arts administration, and nonprofit work.

Creative Pathways Volunteers will provide direct program and community support within AS220 Youth, Community Studios, or Galleries. Depending on their service area, Volunteers will co-facilitate creative workshops and activities; build relationships with youth and community members; support studio orientations, shared spaces, tools, and equipment; assist with exhibitions, installations, openings, and events; engage with visitors; and support outreach, communications, documentation, and program projects.

Volunteers will work alongside AS220 staff and teaching artists and may develop a discrete project that responds to a program or community need. They will receive ongoing supervision, training, feedback, and guidance throughout their service.
