Overview
Summary: The Nurse Practitioner is accountable to facilitate a quality hospital experience and outcome for patients within a cost-effective time frame. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible to the Medical Director of Patient Services and responsible for overseeing the progress of a specific caseload of patients across the care continuum to include out-patient clinics, specialty clinics, pre-admission and post-discharge when feasible.
Acts as an educator, consultant, and liaison to healthcare providers caring for the patients across the care continuum.
- Evaluating patients in Genetic practice—in clinic and in-patient hospital setting.
- Coordinating patients care, treatments and testing.
- Ordering appropriate tests and/or medications as needed.
- May also include managing emergencies—both on site and via phone, telephone triage and supportive care.
- Work closely with the team of 6 genetic counselors and 2 metabolic dieticians.
Minimum Qualifications
Licensure as Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure as a Registered Nurse in accordance with the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
Basic Knowledge
Masters of Science Degree, Graduate of accredited Nurse Practitioner program. Specialty certification required. Baccalaureate in Nursing.
Certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
ExperienceTwo years related experience as RN in acute care hospital setting and preferred 1-2 years experience as a nurse practitioner.
Work EnvironmentGeneral hospital environment with occasional stressful conditions associated with patient care.
Independent ActionResponds to individual patient-care situations demonstrating knowledge and skills acquired through education, certification and work experience.
