Summary
Under the direct supervision of the Clinical Manager (or designee), implement, supervise, and evaluate the nursing care of each patient using a nursing process and in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. From admission to discharge, plan with consideration of the aging process throughout the life span, including all developmental stages as well as cultural patterns.

- Provide direct patient care.
- Provide leadership by delegating, supervising, and participating in safe nursing care activities performed by ancillary personnel.
- Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team, patient, family, and community services regarding the patient care outcome and discharge planning.
- Assess and provide appropriate teaching based on patient and family needs.
- Participate in unit‐based quality improvement and research activities.
- Utilize all available resources to provide quality, cost‑effective patient care.
- Meet and maintain clinical competencies measured by pre‑determined credentialing standards, mandatory/safety education, and completion of Basic Life Support and ACLS/PALS as appropriate.
- Identify growth needs and participate in educational opportunities and professional organizations.
- Serve as a role model/preceptor to new graduate nurses and less experienced personnel.
- Assume charge nurse responsibility for the patient care unit as delegated.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Baccalaureate in Nursing preferred.
- Current RN license in the State of Rhode Island.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages, and cultural patterns.
- Receive NIHSS Certification within 3 months of hire.
- Complete 8 hours of continuing stroke education annually.
Physical Requirements
Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
Physical ability to assist in lifting and positioning patients, and for extensive walking and standing; lifting, positioning, and pushing patients on stretchers.
Exposure to patient care environment.
