Position Overview
The Registered Nurse (RN) is a professional caregiver who assumes responsibility and accountability for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care of patients.
The staff RN utilizes the nursing process through technology, therapeutic intervention, evidence-based practice, and coordination of care with other health team members. We are a 26‑bed Level 1 Trauma Center, Accredited Chest Pain and Stroke Center. The Emergency Department serves Billings and surrounding communities, and operates a dedicated Help‑flight team and EMS ground crew. The typical nurse‑to‑patient ratio is 4:1. - Review and monitor therapy and treatment plans.
- Document patient care in accordance with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Use resources as needed to provide care.
- Promote the mission, vision, and values of the organization.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including floating to other departments when business needs arise.
- May be required to be on‑call during a regularly scheduled shift.
- Regular attendance during regularly scheduled business hours or shifts, including nights and weekends.
- Read, talk, and understand patient needs and workplace alarms quickly and accurately.
- Manual dexterity to operate monitors, manipulatively handle equipment, and perform frequent computer use for documentation.
- Lift and transfer patients, and move supplies that can weigh up to and including heavy items.
- Navigate crowded and busy rooms while safely carrying and operating equipment.
- Stand or walk for extended periods as required.
- Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing is required.
- One year of licensed RN experience in an Emergency Department or high‑acuity setting is preferred.
- Current license as a Registered Nurse in the state of practice is required.
- Must complete a BSN degree within four (4) years of hire unless holding at least fifteen (15) years of proven continuous RN experience in an acute‑care setting.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (BLS-HCP) certification upon hire or within 60 days of hire with prior approval.
- ACLS, NRP, or PALS certification as appropriate for the unit or service is preferred.
The hourly rate ranges from $38.37 to $52.25, dependent upon experience. The organization offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes wellness programs to support mind, body, and spirit.
