Overview
Under general supervision of the Ambulatory Program Administrator, this role functions as the first line manager responsible for directing nursing care administrative activities for a specified patient population within the Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, Infusion, and Hemostasis & Thrombosis and ambulatory settings. The position performs duties to support Program Administrator goals, standards and targets.

- Participate with the Program Administrator in developing department policies and procedures related to the provision of nursing care to ambulatory patients.
- Conduct interviews, recommend selection, orient, and evaluate professional nurse staff and other subordinate patient care providers for the designated ambulatory patient population.
- Recommend corrective action, up to and including discharge, as appropriate.
- Identify training and development needs of staff and report to the Ambulatory Clinical Manager to ensure continued skill development and maintenance of nursing care standards.
- Identify and recommend environmental, technological, and personnel resources necessary to meet anticipated needs.
- Assist in assessing the quality of care, documenting compliance with ambulatory care standards, recommending corrective action, and monitoring the effectiveness of interventions.
- Assist staff in implementing new concepts and technology within the area of responsibility.
- Execute expanded management duties in the absence of the Ambulatory Program Administrator.
- Regularly function as a professional nurse to provide direct patient care.
- Participate in department‑based research projects and assist staff in implementing approved research findings into practice.
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Rhode Island by the Rhode Island Board of Nursing or licensure under the Nurse Licensure Compact agreement of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing.
- Graduation from an approved school of nursing; a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Professional level of nursing knowledge and analytical ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care and to respond appropriately to a patient’s condition, including assistance with emergency resuscitation measures as needed.
- Visual and aural ability to monitor patient status.
- Interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with patients, families, and other stakeholders.
- Supervisory skills to plan work, orient, direct, and evaluate staff performing patient care activities.
- Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients across all stages of development and cultural contexts within Brown University Health.
At least three years of relevant experience with demonstrated clinical and supervisory responsibilities is required. Active Pediatric Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provider experience with 2–3 years in pediatric hematology/oncology is preferred.
