Allied Health Professional The Eye Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

The Eye Clinic Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) has an exceptional degree of practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures/practices necessary for concentrated effort and self-direction in carrying out the most complex nursing care assignments. This is done for selected Veterans requiring skilled ambulatory/surgical nursing care on a regular/recurring basis. The individual possesses the knowledge of program regulations and can carry out objectives of the Nursing Program.

Duties include, but not limited to:

• Participates in the pre-planning of care such as through huddles and follow-up of visits as indicated and participating in the prioritization and coordination of patient care and team communication.
• Serves as a trainer, resource, and coach. Makes observations and thoroughly documents care and the Veteran's response.
• Appropriately seeks assistance and guidance by informing RN or medical provider of changes in the Veteran's condition requiring higher-level intervention.
• Adheres to standards of practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medication.
• Applies advanced knowledge and skill in preparation, administration, and documentation of commonly prescribed oral, topical, subcutaneous, intramuscular, and IV medications.
• Recognizes subtle signs and symptoms of drug interactions and promptly notifies the provider.
• Serves as a resource for complex/specialized procedures (i.e. suture removal, complex wound care, and clinic specific procedures related to the Eye Clinic and may manage individual clinics requiring these technical skills.
• Assists with diagnostic procedures which include preparing the Veteran, setting up sterile field and instrumentation, and monitoring the Veteran's condition.

Work Schedule:

Full time;
Mon-Fri; 8a-430p

Pay:
Competitive salary and regular salary increases.

Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior [work experience] or military service experience.

Parental Leave:
After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.

Child Care Subsidy:
After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66

Retirement:
Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA
