Job Description:Job Summary
We are seeking a skilled and patient-focused Registered Nurse (RN) – Interventional Radiology (IR) Lab to provide comprehensive nursing care for patients undergoing minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. The IR Nurse is responsible for pre-procedure assessments, intra-procedure monitoring, post-procedure recovery, patient education, and collaboration with physicians and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure safe and high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct patient assessments and review medical histories prior to procedures.
- Prepare patients for interventional radiology procedures and provide education regarding treatment plans and expectations.
- Assist physicians during a variety of diagnostic and therapeutic interventional procedures.
- Monitor patient vital signs, cardiac rhythms, sedation levels, and overall condition throughout procedures.
- Administer medications, intravenous therapies, and procedural sedation as permitted by organizational policy.
- Provide post-procedure monitoring, recovery care, and discharge education.
- Recognize and respond appropriately to emergency situations and changes in patient condition.
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in electronic medical records (EMR).
- Ensure compliance with radiation safety, infection prevention, and regulatory standards.
- Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, anesthesia providers, and other healthcare professionals to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and departmental activities.
- Active and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN).
- Minimum of one (1) year of acute care nursing experience.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
- Experience with intravenous therapy, patient monitoring, and medication administration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.
- Proficiency with electronic medical record (EMR) systems.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
- Previous experience in Interventional Radiology, Cath Lab, Critical Care, Emergency Department, PACU, or ICU settings.
- Experience with procedural sedation and recovery monitoring.
- Knowledge of vascular access procedures, angiography, embolization, and other IR procedures.
- Familiarity with radiation safety practices and sterile procedural techniques.
- Experience with moderate sedation protocols and emergency response procedures.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) License.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification.
- Certified Radiology Nurse (CRN) Certification (preferred).
- Moderate Sedation Certification (preferred, where applicable).
