Job Summary
Under the supervision of a registered nurse, the Collegiate Aide Nursing PD performs a variety of patient care functions to provide assistance in carrying out patient care assignments. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients.
Works under the supervision of the Registered Nurse within the scope of Hospital and department policies and procedures. Refers specific complex problems to supervisor where clarification of departmental policies and procedures may be required. Supervisory staff is physically present most of the time. Performs approved nursing procedures as delegated by the registered nurse and in compliance with Women and Infants Hospital policies and procedures.
- Complies with patient safety issues as defined by the JCAHO patient safety goals. Demonstrates:
- Accurate patient
- Effective communication between caregivers
- Accurate use of infusion pumps
- Accurate use of clinical alarm systems
- Accurate identification of correct surgical site.
- Compliance with CDC hand washing technique
- Perform and documents a comprehensive assessment of patient needs using unit-specific assessment forms. Assesses and accurately documents:
- Physical findings
- Psychological data
- Developmental tasks(as indicated)
- Educational needs
- Significant person/family support
- Cognitive abilities
- Major stressors
- Provides on-going patient/family education. Gives information as applicable on:
- Anticipated Plan of Care
- Test preparation
- Medical treatment information
- Community resources(if applicable)
- Infant(if applicable)
- Self-care(if applicable)
- Including but not limited to assisting with collection of baseline and ongoing assessment data following the nursing management plan and monitoring the patient response to nursing interventions.
- Discusses patient and/or family issues only when related to plan of care.
- Treats records, personal items, correspondence with utmost security.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required. Must be actively enrolled in a bachelor of science program in nursing, associate degree program in nursing, accredited licensed practical nursing program, or registered nurse course of study in a National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., or a Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program, and have completed two (2) clinical courses, including a Fundamentals of Nursing course.
Current certification in Basic Life Support with Healthcare Provider required. Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients throughout the Hospital with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.
