Assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental health conditions via comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and medication management to support mental health, academic functioning, and well-being of students referred by Personal Counseling Center Staff. This is a part-time and academic year (9-month) position.

Provide psychiatric evaluations, assessment, and medication management services to students presenting a wide range of mental health concerns. Provide detailed education on risks/benefits of medications and interactions with other prescribed or recreational substances. Develop comprehensive treatment planning for caseload, including assisting with appropriate referrals for medication management when students are away from campus for continuity of care. Monitor medication adherence, side effects, and treatment outcomes using best practices.

Collaborate with internal and external treatment providers to coordinate comprehensive care, including consultation with the contracted psychiatrist and case discussions with counseling and health services staff. Meet with the executive director periodically to review cases of concern and flow of system. (10%)

Partner with health Services and Sports Medicine staff (Athletic team doctors) to coordinate laboratory testing, as needed cardiac testing, and review medical concerns related to psychiatric treatment. Communicate clearly about medication interactions and health monitoring needs. Consult with both departments, as needed. (5%)

Assist in referral management for higher or specialized care, including partial hospitalization, emergency referrals for inpatient level of care assessment, intensive outpatient programs, or off-campus psychiatric providers. Ensure appropriate handoff and continuity of care. (5%)

Provide timely documentation in the electronic medical records system within the Personal Counseling Center's policies and procedures, following state and institutional standards. Utilize EMR systems in Health Services and Athletics for electronic prescription services. Provide documentation for varsity student athletes when needed for NCAA mandates related to controlled substances. (5%)

Perform all other duties as may be required.

Education and Experience Master of Science in Nursing from an accredited institution required.

One to three years' hands-on experience, preferable in a higher education counseling center or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

APRN license in the State of Rhode Island.

Current board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) from the ANNC (American Nurses Credentialing Center).Rhode Island Controlled Substances Registration (CSR license)/Federal DEA Registration.

Intermediate proficiency with electronic medical records systems.

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Ability to provide intricate substance use assessments to assess dual/comorbid diagnoses, level of risk regarding substance use, and potential prescribed medications in college population.

Experience working with assessing for disordered eating/eating disorders given the higher occurrence in a higher education setting.

Ability to work effectively in a team-based setting that requires flexibility based on potential for emergency/risk assessments while also being able to work independently.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills to provide complex diagnostic and treatment feedback to students.
