Job Description
Professional, High Energy Mohs Technician to help us provide excellent quality of care to our patients. Aspire Dermatology is seeking a professional, high‑energy Mohs Technician to assist our Mohs surgeon by accurately preparing and processing histologic specimens for microscopic evaluation, maintaining quality control, and ensuring compliance with OSHA, CLIA, and other regulatory agencies.
Company DescriptionAspire Dermatology, with twelve offices throughout Rhode Island, provides a full range of dermatology services from skin screenings and cosmetic procedures to Mohs surgery. The Mohs Technician works closely with our Mohs surgeon in a dual‑role opportunity, floating between Clinical Medical Assisting and Pathology functions based on departmental needs.
HoursFull Time, 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday (and occasional Saturdays). 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. hours, with flexibility required.
Compensation$26.00 – $30.00 per hour, based on education, certifications, and experience.
Essential Functions- Processes, embeds, cuts and stains quality frozen tissue specimens.
- Performs and documents tests in compliance with quality control procedures and established parameters and standards.
- Maintains appropriate quality controls and ensures the department operates in accordance with standards set forth by OSHA, CLIA and other regulatory agencies.
- Maintains laboratory equipment in good working order and troubleshoots equipment problems.
- Works with the Mohs surgeon to resolve quality control, patient, or procedural problems.
- Orders supplies related to the defined area.
- Floats between working both Clinical and Pathology as needed.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with physicians and function as a technical resource to clinical staff.
- Electronically scribe Mohs documentation into patients’ chart via Mohs Map.
- Assist with preparing patients for exams and procedures, preparing equipment & instruments using proper sterilization techniques, and providing education to patients on pre‑ and post‑operative care instructions.
- Consistently follows policies, procedures, and protocols at Aspire Dermatology.
- Maintains an extremely high level of confidentiality and follows HIPAA guidelines.
- Delivers a high level of customer service in all interactions with patients, providers, employees, vendors, and guests.
- Assists in meeting and exceeding individual, team and organizational goals.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains yearly competencies.
- One (1) year of experience (within the past five years) as a Mohs Surgery Technician.
- Associate’s degree in histotechnology, medical technology, biological sciences or related field; or completion of a NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program is preferred.
- Proficiency in applicable computer software.
- Must be commutable to all Aspire offices as needed.
- Influenza vaccination is mandatory.
- Attention to detail and ability to utilize skills interchangeably across all areas of medical practice.
- Ability to understand and apply policies, procedures and protocols.
- Ability to interact with patients, providers, supervisors and peers in a professional manner.
- Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills; able to stand, walk, bend, lift at least 50 pounds, hear, speak, and see.
- Maintenance of ASCP Histotechnician (HT) certification.
The employee must be able to sit; stand (including prolonged standing); use hands to handle and feel; reach with hands and arms; walk (including prolonged walking); climb stairs and stepstools; balance; push and pull heavy objects such as wheelchairs; stoop; kneel; crouch; squat; crawl; twist; pinch; write; type; grip; speak; hear; and smell. The employee must also be able to lift and move objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Aspire Dermatology will provide reasonable accommodations to qualified employees with disabilities.
