Overview
Senior Research Assistant will provide technical assistance to two laboratories. The Senior Research Assistant will independently conduct experiments in the general area of molecular and cell biology aimed at understanding retrotransposons in aging using mice and Alzheimer's disease biomarker discovery in humans. This position will perform experiments involving molecular biology procedures related to high throughput sequencing, cell culture, and Alzheimer's disease biomarker discovery.
The primary purpose of this position is to help the labs make progress toward their research goals. The Senior Research Assistant will provide technical training and guidance to undergraduate research assistants and work closely with lab personnel to perform experiments.
This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 09/30/2027, which may be extended based upon available funding.
Responsibilities- Independently conduct experiments in molecular and cell biology to support aging research (retrotransposons) in mice and Alzheimer's disease biomarker discovery in humans.
- Perform experiments involving molecular biology procedures related to high throughput sequencing, cell culture, and biomarker discovery.
- Collect, record, and interpret experimental findings including acquisition and analysis of high throughput datasets.
- Contribute to writing grants and manuscripts in collaboration with the Principal Investigators.
- Provide technical training and guidance to undergraduate research assistants; collaborate closely with lab personnel to perform experiments.
- Education and Experience:
- Required:
Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting - And/or the equivalent combination of education and experience
- Basic knowledge of laboratory approaches and techniques in Molecular, Cell Biology and Biochemistry
- Experience working with mouse colonies
- Strong computer skills with experience in bioinformatic analysis of high throughput datasets
- Previous experience working with scientific databases
- Experience with Image
J / Jupiter / Python; knowledge of Python, R, and Java is desirable - Computational pipeline development experience is advantageous
- Required:
- Interest in scientific research
- Ability to support the lab group and interact with a diverse range of individuals
- Excellent organizational, record keeping, task prioritization, and report preparation skills
- Outstanding problem-solving skills and ability to implement solutions
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to present complex data in clear presentations
- Proficiency with computers and essential software programs (e.g. MS Office, Google Suite, etc.)
- Ability to collect and analyze data
