Position Overview
Coneco Engineer’s & Scientist is actively seeking an Environmental Scientist to join our Providence, RI team. We are a consulting firm specializing in environmental management, civil engineering, ecological permitting, and land surveying, serving clients across Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine for over 30 years.
We offer an opportunity to participate in a variety of environmental assessment and remediation projects, plan field activities, oversee subcontractor field work, author technical reports, and ensure quality execution. The role requires strong attention to detail, analytical and problem‑solving skills, and a commitment to safety.
Qualifications- 0-5 years of experience.
- B.S. in Environmental Science/Engineering, Geology, Chemistry, Biology, Natural Resource Management, or a related field.
- Familiarity with ArcGIS and AutoCAD.
- OSHA 40‑Hour HAZWOPER training is a plus.
- Flexibility to work on diverse projects with a positive attitude and commitment to workplace health and safety.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to observe, document, and communicate field conditions.
- Self‑motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Willingness to work outdoors in all weather and terrain at various times of day; flexibility and preparedness are required.
- Must pass background check and drug screening; have an insurable driving record and acceptable motor vehicle record.
- Conduct sampling activities (soil, air, groundwater, surface water, building materials).
- Oversee subsurface drilling activities and sampling collection.
- Provide remedial action oversight and direction to environmental service field crews.
- Respond to emergency releases of petroleum products, mercury, PCBs, etc.
- Oversee underground storage tank removals and prepare closure reports.
- Perform industrial hygiene and air/dust monitoring associated with construction and utility work.
- Use field equipment for monitoring, screening, and sampling.
- Analyze and interpret data to determine next course of action.
- Draft site plans, sampling plans, and related figures.
- Prepare technical and regulatory reports for submittal to clients and state/federal agencies.
- Communicate with clients and subcontractors as needed.
- Attend required health and safety training and obtain necessary certifications.
- Conduct ASTM‑compliant Phase I Environmental Site Assessments and Phase II Investigations.
Salary: $45,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year, commensurate with experience.
