SUMMARY
Works under general supervision of the Manager of Medical Engineering, performs a variety of tasks associated with the installation, inspection, calibration and repair of general biomedical and other assigned equipment with minimal supervision. Performs preventive maintenance and safety inspections according to manufacturers’ specifications. Performs repair services and calibrates medical equipment. Coordinates equipment vendor factory or onsite services when necessary. Documents and maintain equipment service records.
Responds to emergency situations on a 24-hour basis as necessary to identify not only equipment problems, but also clinical and user problems l. Follows job assignments and priorities determined by the Manager. Repairs medical devices with general to moderate complexity such as, but not limited to, infusion pumps, patient monitors, defibrillators, monitoring central stations, and other assigned devices of similar complexity. Under Manager’s supervision, BMET II may shadow and assist more senior technicians with repairs on complex systems. Responds to all calls promptly and follow up with the users on equipment status.
Perform equipment incoming inspections and establish complete asset inventory in the Equipment Management System. Follows manufacturers’ requirements and pre-established department preventive procedures and schedules to perform functional verifications, preventive maintenance, replaces faulty components, and safety inspections to ensure device integrity and compliance with Joint Commission and other regulatory agencies’ requirements. Secures Manager approval and follows established department procedure ordering replacement parts not already in inventory.
Notifies Manager if the devices do not appear repairable. Completes paperwork and prepares shipment/receiving of equipment requires factory service. Coordinates vendor onsite services when necessary. Document all service activities performed and hours spent in the Equipment Management System in a timely manner. Reviews pertinent literature and attend seminars to maintain awareness of medical instrumentation innovations and related maintenance techniques. Per Manager’s assignment and close supervision, the BMET II may be assigned to inspect and repair equipment at higher risk and complexity as part of the hands-on learning process.
After hour emergency on-call based on department on-call rotation schedule Assists with the installation, safety testing, and inventory of new equipment as part of the equipment installation projects.
EDUCATION:
Associate’s degree in electronics, electrical or other technical fields or higher with basic knowledge of mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer and networking parietals. BASIC KNOWLEDGE:
General understanding of troubleshooting and maintenance workflow logics, and ability to read and understand electrical, electronic and mechanical schematics and diagrams.
