Under supervision of up-line personnel performs minor installation, maintenance, inspection, alteration, and repair of electrical lines, equipment, and apparatus in all City properties and buildings including schools; receives work assignments from a superior with considerable latitude for the use of independent judgment in the application of the practices and techniques of the trade; supervises the work of helpers or others assigned to assist;

and related work as required.

This position is from 7am – 3:30pm plus overtime as needed.

• Installs, repairs, and maintains various electrical branch circuits.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains fluorescent, incandescent, and quartz light fixtures.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains switches; single pole, three-way, and dimmers; receptacles; single and duplex.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical cords on various electrical equipment and extension cords.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains photocells and single pole timers where necessary on light fixtures.
• Installs, repairs, and maintains electrical metallic tubing and wire mold for branch circuits.
• May be assigned to assist the Parks Electrician by performing the duties of the Assistant Electrician(Parks) under the direction and supervision of the Parks Electrician.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• Must possess and maintain a valid Journeyman Electrician’s License issued by the Rhode Island State Board of Examiners of Electricians.
• Experience gained through employment as a journeyman electrician.
• Knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrical trade and skill in their application.
• A working knowledge of the safety codes enforced by the State of Rhode Island.
• Ability to read and work from electrical wiring diagrams and blueprints.
• Ability to handle 110 – 220 voltage wires.
• Ability to understand and carry out complex oral and written instructions.
• Must be able to perform all essential functions of the job.
