Position Overview

The Department of Facilities & Operations is responsible for the maintenance and operations of the physical aspects of Rhode Island College’s multi‑building campus, including contractor administration and the Central Falls Hub.

Responsibilities
  • Install, inspect, maintain, alter, and repair electrical lines, equipment, and apparatus; and perform related work as required.
  • Install, inspect, and repair electric wires and cables (including high‑voltage), power appliances, machinery, overhead circuits, underground conduits, and pole lines.
  • Install, inspect, and repair special medical equipment such as X‑ray and physiotherapy units.
  • Install, inspect, regulate, and repair electrical traffic control signals.
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment for state facilities, including refrigerators, stoves, elevators, dairy and laundry machinery.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair electrical equipment for stage and theatrical presentations at the Veterans’ Memorial Building or other state facilities, including lighting systems, public address systems, and heating/ventilation units.
  • Inspect, make minor repairs to, clean, and oil motors and generators.
  • Install, inspect, and maintain communication, signaling, and other electronic systems.
  • Regulate and repair electric master and secondary clocks.
  • Perform related work as required.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Completion of ten school grades.
  • Employment as a journeyman electrician.
  • Or any combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent to the above.
Additional

Required Qualifications
  • Must possess a journeyman electrician’s license issued by the Rhode Island State Board of Examiners of Electricians and maintain such licensure as a condition of employment.
Knowledge, Skills, and Capacities

A thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, techniques, tools, equipment, and materials used in the electrician trade; skill in their application; working knowledge of state safety codes; ability to read and work from electrical wiring diagrams and blueprints; ability to handle high‑voltage wires; and the ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.

Work Schedule
  • 40 hours/week
  • Monday through Friday
  • 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
Salary

Salary Grade: 316CH
Minimum Salary: $23,090
Maximum Salary: $24,110
Added Salary: $9.00/hr Trade Wage Stipend
