HVAC Controls Installer
Location: Providence, RI
Position Summary
The HVAC Controls Installer assists with the installation of building automation and HVAC control systems on commercial construction and retrofit projects. This position focuses on installing and terminating low-voltage control wiring, mounting devices, and supporting senior technicians with system startup. Previous HVAC controls experience is helpful but not required for candidates with a strong electrical or mechanical background.
Responsibilities
- Install low-voltage control wiring for HVAC systems.
- Mount controllers, sensors, thermostats, relays, actuators, and control panels.
- Pull, label, secure, and dress control wiring.
- Install conduit, cable supports, and wire management systems as required.
- Assist with terminating wiring at controllers, field devices, and control panels.
- Read basic wiring diagrams, floor plans, and installation drawings.
- Verify installed devices are properly labelled and mounted.
- Maintain a clean and safe work area.
- Assist senior controls technicians with checkout and startup activities.
- Report installation issues to the project supervisor.
- Follow company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
- Travel to customer job sites throughout Rhode Island and surrounding areas.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- 0–2 years of experience in HVAC, electrical, construction, or low-voltage installation.
- Basic knowledge of hand and power tools.
- Ability to read a tape measure and follow installation drawings.
- Ability to work on ladders and lifts.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Valid driver's licence with a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience pulling low-voltage cable.
- Basic electrical or mechanical knowledge.
- Experience working on commercial construction projects.
- Familiarity with HVAC equipment is a plus.
- Experience with Schneider Electric, Johnson Controls, Siemens, Honeywell, or other building automation systems is beneficial but not required.
Physical Requirements
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing ladders, and working overhead.
- Ability to work in mechanical rooms, above ceilings, and on active construction sites.
- Ability to work in varying temperatures and job-site conditions.
