Job Title: Bilingual (Spanish) Domestic Violence Coordinated Assessment Referral and Engagement (CARE) Advocate

Job Location: Providence, RI

Reports to: Coordinated Assessment Referral and Engagement (CARE) Manager

Status: Full-time (37.5 hours per week), nonexempt

Salary: $26 to $27 per hour, depending on experience, with benefits that include health/dental insurance, paid holidays, accrued vacation/sick/personal time, an Employee Assistance Plan, and a 401(k) plan with employer match.

Sojourner House is a comprehensive domestic violence and sexual assault agency that provides residential, educational, and community-based interventions to families and individuals impacted by abuse. We operate offices in Providence and Woonsocket and programs statewide. Our goal is to help clients rebuild their lives through a variety of services, grounded in non-violence and respect for client choices.

We are seeking bilingual (Spanish) candidates to join our Coordinated Assessment Referral and Engagement (CARE) Team. The Domestic Violence CARE Advocate partners with the RI Coalition to End Homelessness (RICEH) to help survivors access the Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry System (CES). Working with Sojourner House programs and community partners, the DV CARE Advocate provides direct services aimed at stabilizing and housing survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking.

• Work with DV CARE Manager to maintain the Domestic Violence Coordinated Entry System list.
• Attend meetings and committees for the domestic violence CES program (e.g., case conferencing, housing matching meetings).
• Answer phone calls, conduct intakes of new clients, and provide referrals and information to potential housing and shelter clients.
• Conduct housing problem-solving conversations, housing assessments, and crisis assessments with clients who meet HUD homelessness criteria.
• Support clients in creating and making progress on housing plans including goals such as sustainable housing placements and access to income and public benefits.
• Assist in facilitating Sojourner House housing clinics for survivors across multiple communities and participate in ad hoc housing clinic events.
• Complete data entry and submit necessary reports for grant compliance.
• Stay informed of Rhode Island housing and shelter issues by building relationships with housing and social service agencies statewide.
• Support Sojourner House’s philosophy of client empowerment and respect for individual choices.
• Collaborate with the Volunteer Coordinator to support supervision of volunteers as needed.
• Perform other duties as requested by Sojourner House management.

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in social work, psychology, or related field preferred, or a minimum of 2–3 years of experience.

• A minimum of two to three years of experience in human or social services
• Familiarity with domestic violence and/or gender issues
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities
• Fluency in Spanish (written and oral) is required
• Computer literacy with Google Workspace and general Internet skills
• Experience working with individuals from diverse backgrounds
• Experience delivering community presentations
• Familiarity with LGBTQ+, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and/or substance abuse populations
• Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle to travel between locations
• Ability to work independently and in teams
• Innovative thinking to address poverty and service delivery
• Familiarity with Rhode Island social services
• Applicant must pass federal and state background checks if offered the position
• Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional evenings or weekends

This is a full-time, on-site position. Travel to other offices and agency-owned buildings throughout the state may be required. Reasonable accommodations may be made as necessary.

• Occasionally lift objects weighing 10–25 pounds
• Frequent stairs and walking between locations

• Noise level is usually moderate and environment can be chaotic at times
