Camp Coordinator

RIOT Youth Rock Camp is a 5-day summer day camp for girls, trans, and gender-expansive youth ages 11-14. Campers learn an instrument, form a band, write an original song, create band art, participate in enrichment workshops, and perform at a final showcase for friends, family, and fans. The program centers empowerment, identity exploration, creative expression, and community-building - offering a transformative experience for youth at all musical skill levels.

RIO is seeking a part-time, hourly Camp Coordinator to support the planning, preparation, and execution of Youth Rock Camp 2027. The Camp Coordinator will work closely with the RIOT Board to lead camp planning and logistics, co-design the daily schedule, identify workshop facilitators, determine volunteer needs, and ensure all operational elements are in place ahead of camp week. During camp week, the Camp Coordinator will oversee daily operations and supervise a volunteer team of approximately 20-30 people, including band coaches, counselors, workshop instructors, and gear/hospitality volunteers, to help deliver a safe, welcoming, and empowering experience for all campers.

This role is ideal for a detail-oriented, youth-centered organizer who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys building community, and is excited to help create a joyful, identity-affirming summer experience for middle school youth. The Camp Coordinator reports directly to the RIOT Board of Directors.

  • Camp Week Leadership - Lead daily operations during camp week, including staff huddles, safety checks, transitions, family communication, and on-the-ground decision-making; support showcase execution.
  • Weekly Progress Reporting - Provide weekly updates to the Board on planning progress, timelines, and emerging needs; report blockers early to ensure smooth preparation.
  • Values-Based Practice - Model trauma-informed, anti-racist, and anti-oppressive pedagogy; foster collaboration, creativity, and identity-affirming community-building throughout planning and camp week.
