Overview
Position Overview:
As a dedicated and safety-conscious driver, you will play a vital role in providing our students with access to life-changing opportunities. Your primary responsibility will be safely transporting students to and from school, internship sites, field trips, and other school-related activities. The ideal candidate takes pride in their driving skills, has a keen attention to detail, and genuinely enjoys interacting with students.
- Prioritize the safety and well-being of all student passengers at all times.
- Obey all traffic laws and follow The Met’s transportation guidelines to ensure a safe journey.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip safety inspections, including checks on brakes, lights, emergency flashers, tire pressure, fuel levels, and other critical systems.
- Safely transport students along designated routes, adhering to time schedules.
- Communicate effectively with the Director of Transportation regarding route changes or student passengers.
- Provide transportation for students and staff to various events, trips, and activities as needed.
- Participate in all required driver training programs to stay updated on best practices.
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the vehicle to ensure safe and pleasant trips.
- Report accidents and incidents immediately, ensuring timely communication and appropriate action.
- Be prepared to handle emergencies, including vehicle breakdowns, student health issues, or unexpected route changes. Follow established emergency protocols and procedures, including safe evacuation when necessary.
- Maintain clear and professional communication with students, school staff, parents, and the Director of Transportation. Report any issues, delays, or concerns promptly.
- Collaborate with the Director of Transportation on vehicle care and maintenance.
- Manage and submit receipts for Met-issued gas cards as required.
- Hours available from September - June, opportunities for additional hours during the summer months
- Workdays are Mondays - Fridays, with possible weekend opportunities.
- Flexible schedule with up to 29 hours per week; hours may vary
- Availability for early morning and late evening shifts as needed
- High school diploma or GED
- Rhode Island Chauffeurs’ License required
- Clean driving record with proof of good driving history.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive attitude towards students and staff.
- Ability to follow driving directions and adapt to changes in routes or schedules.
- Commitment to maintaining a drug- and alcohol-free work environment.
- Must pass a nationwide fingerprint background check.
- CDL is preferred but not required.
- Professional driving experience is a plus.
