Responsible for the movement of materials for the plant, in-house or at other sites, to include loading and unloading of trucks, movement of raw materials and completed shipments to and from sites, house call pick-ups, and storage of goods. Pre-sort and grade donated goods for shipping to retail stores, outlet, salvage or trash. Dispose of waste material in and around job sites.
Work under the direction of the Warehouse Coordinator.
Warehouse operates seven days per week to support the Agency retail operation. May be required to work weekend (i.e. Saturday, Sunday), evening and holiday hours.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Follow verbal instructions or read work orders to determine materials and containers to be moved.
- Load materials into and from vehicles, install strapping, bracing or padding to prevent shifting or damage in transit, assisting truck driver.
- Convey materials to and from storage or work sites to designated areas using hand truck, tow motor or pallet jack.
- Participate in training regarding proper and safe operation of hand truck and tow motor.
- Occasionally count, weigh and/or record number of units of material moved or handled.
- Pre-sort and grade donated goods for shipping to retail stores, outlet, salvage or trash.
- Assist in preparation of all shipping documentation for materials being shipped from premises.
- Lift heavy objects by hand and maintain clean work area, machines and/or equipment.
- Responsible for operation of baler and tipping equipment. Will notify supervisor in the event of problems with equipment.
- Remove snow/ice from sidewalks at main office and at other locations as necessary to ensure safe environments.
- Perform other related essential duties as required or assigned by supervisor.
- High School education or GED not required; up to three months related experience or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and comprehend work orders, shipping orders, simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to communicate with customers in one-on-one situations.
- Mathematical skills: add, subtract, multiply, divide, compute rate, ratio, percent.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Ability to operate tow motor and hand truck and maintain certification for operation of tow motor.
Employee must frequently stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. Employee occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and occasionally lift or move more than 100 pounds. Regularly required to push crates that may weigh up to 600 pounds.
Crates may be moved on flat or sloped surfaces. Specific vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception required.
Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts. Noise level usually moderate.
PPE RequirementsProtective eyewear and work gloves must be worn operating equipment in the warehouse (e.g. compactor, baler, tipper).
