Events Specialist (Part‑time 17.5 hrs/week)
Join the Liberal Arts Advisement and Careers (LAAC) Center to support students in the College of Family, Home, and Social Sciences and the College of Humanities. As an Events Specialist you will coordinate student‑facing events, manage convocation ceremonies, develop promotional materials, and support social media content creation.
Responsibilities- Plan and execute LAAC events, including New Student Orientation, Major Fair and College Showcase
- Facilitate regular outreach events such as monthly open houses to connect students with academic advisors, career directors, and center resources
- Design and create promotional materials for students and faculty
- Plan and execute the annual convocation ceremonies for both colleges, coordinating with the FHSS Dean’s Office and the College of Humanities
- Arrange accommodations and VIP services, as needed
- Manage and train staff and volunteers on convocation assignments
- Collaborate with the LAAC Office Manager and student employees to create social media content for the Center
- Order office supplies, schedule rooms, manage calendars, and coordinate event budgets with the LAAC Office Manager
- Firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- Two years of related office work experience and/or progress toward a bachelor's degree
- Two years of experience with event planning and/or managing projects
- A pleasant, mature, and professional demeanor
- Ability to coordinate and communicate clearly with teammates, faculty, and other stakeholders
- Ability to handle difficult situations and customers appropriately
- Computer skills, including MS Office (especially Excel), and ability to learn new systems quickly
- Experience formatting correspondence in response to email requests, faxes, memos, and directives from management
- Attention to detail and knowledge of general office equipment (copier, scanner, shredder, etc.)
- Three to four years of event planning and/or project management experience
- Proven experience managing complex events such as large‑scale ceremonies or conferences
- Experience with vendor negotiation and contract management for events
- Experience training and directing temporary staff or volunteers for events
- Knowledge of higher education experiential learning programs (study abroad, internships, undergraduate research)
- Familiarity with financial record‑keeping or expense reporting
- Familiarity with social media strategy and graphic design principles
- Knowledge of BYU policies and procedures and Workday
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints must hold and be worthy to hold a current temple recommend.

Pay Grade: 47. Typical Starting Pay: $18.75 – $23.75 per hour.
