Asst Registrar MOA (part-time 28 hrs/wk)
The Assistant Registrar helps the registration department care for artworks in the Museum's collection as well as artworks on loan from other museums and individuals. This position assists the Senior Registrar in the following areas: traveling exhibition management, artwork transportation, management, condition reporting, exhibition installation, acquisition research and support, facility compliance and reporting.
What you’ll do in this position:
Assist in care of museum art collection – such as accessioning of new art acquisitions, determine and implement proper artwork storage methods, regular inventory of art collection, maintenance of archival hard copy files and electronic files in the collection database.
Understand and perform best practices of moving artwork.
Assist in proper care of artwork on loan, including record maintenance, loan document preparation, insurance and transport arrangement and completion of condition reports.
Assist with installation and de-installation of artwork in exhibitions.
Assist with image rights and reproduction requests.
Assist with Museum Print Study Room scheduling.
Assist in managing traveling exhibitions.
As needed, direct registration student assistants on specific projects and other registration related duties.
What qualifies you for this role:
RequiredA firm commitment to the mission of BYU.Bachelor’s degree in art related field, or at least 2 years’ experience
Need to be familiar with proper art handling procedures.
Proficient with data entry.
Highly attentive to detail.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in art related field
Experience with art collection data systems, such as e-Museum and/or TMS.
Experience with museum art collection best practices, including art handling and storage.
Experience with art exhibition installation and de-installation procedures.
Experience with art loan requests and required shipping procedures of art work.
