Overview

Position Title: Public Safety Telecommunicator Shift Supervisor

Provo City is hiring a full-time Public Safety Telecommunication Shift Supervisor to assist with the administration of the Public Safety Telecommunication Unit and provide first-line supervision, direction, training, and support to a team of Public Safety Telecommunicators. This position is responsible for supervising dispatcher activities for a designated shift to ensure proper protocols are followed and appropriate service levels are maintained.

What is the compensation package?

Pay Range: (G31) $32.50 - $44.80 per hour (depending on experience)

Responsibilities
  • Supervise shift telecommunication operations, ensuring protocols, service levels, functioning equipment, and proper resource organization.
  • Coordinate shift staffing and coverage, including approving time off, handling rotations, and briefing incoming supervisors.
  • Perform telecommunicator duties as needed and act as liaison or supervisor during designated absences.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, logs, maps, and related resources to support daily operations.
  • Support training functions, including maintaining manuals, documenting staff certifications, coordinating in‑house training, and teaching classes.
  • Assist with quality assurance and system security, including support for State computer system requirements.
  • Serve in specialized coordinator roles, such as PSAP Coordinator, Terminal Agency Coordinator, or POST‑approved instructor.
  • Support hiring, staffing, personnel issue resolution, performance reviews, and disciplinary actions.
  • Assist with administrative management, including budgeting, ordering supplies, reviewing documentation, and overseeing staff work.
  • Participate in and sometimes lead meetings, provide staff support, and perform other assigned duties, including community 911 awareness activities.
Minimum Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Five years of experience as a public safety telecommunicator, two years of which must have been equal to a senior public safety telecommunicator level.
  • Must be a United States citizen or a lawful permanent resident of the United States who has been in the United States legally for 5 years and has legal authorization to work in the United States.
  • Typing speed of 40 WPM net is required.
  • A valid, lawful driver license.
  • Utah State POST Dispatch certification.
  • Emergency Medical Dispatch certification.
  • CPR certification.
  • Bureau of Criminal Identification Proficiency certification.
  • Certification as a course instructor for a department-approved, dispatch-related course is required.
Selection Process

Applications will be reviewed in the order they are submitted, with the first screening being held on March 2, 2026. Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications listed above to be eligible for consideration.

If selected for hire, the candidate will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six (6) months.
