Position Title:
911 Telecommunication Dispatchers

Compensation PackageCareer Series Pay Range: (G25-G28) $24.86 - $38.70 per hour. These positions are the first level of a three-tier career series.
Pay Advancement- At Hire: $24.86 per hour (Public Safety Telecommunicator I)
- After 1st Year: $27.41 per hour (assuming successful completion of annual performance appraisal and advancement to Public Safety Telecommunicator II)
- After 2nd Year: $28.09 per hour (assuming successful completion of annual performance appraisal)
- After 3rd Year: $30.99 per hour (assuming successful completion of annual performance appraisal and advancement to Sr. Public Safety Telecommunicator)
- After 4th Year: 2.5% merit raise annually, up to the range maximum

- Assist in administering the operations of the Provo City Public Safety Communications Center, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year
- Receive routine and emergency assistance calls from the public, public safety personnel via radio, enhanced 911 lines, direct phone lines, TDDs, teletypes, and other agencies
- Act as the "first link" in channeling requests for all facets of the public safety system (law enforcement, emergency medical, fire service), and various other City services
- Analyze the nature and severity of an incident; confirm location, determine priority, and promptly dispatch appropriate personnel efficiently and accurately in accordance with established policy and procedure
- Maintain radio contact, current status, and location of all law enforcement, emergency medical, and fire units in the field
- Use interactive interrogation skills to elicit specific pertinent and oftentimes crucial information from individuals who are emotionally distraught, frightened, abusive, irate, or threatening
- Coordinate after-hours transient assistance
- Perform various record-keeping, filing, indexing, and other general clerical work
- Assist other staff members as needed, and perform other related duties as required
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- United States citizen or lawful permanent resident who has been in the United States legally for the five years immediately preceding the application date and has legal authorization to work
- Must be 18 years of age at time of hire
Must obtain BCI terminal, EMD, and CPR certifications during probationary period - Existing Utah State POST Dispatch certification desirable
- Experience with video display terminals, data input, and typing skill of 40 wpm. Typing scores will be considered if submitted by the closing date and will be verified

Schedule- Day, Swing, and Grave shifts
- Schedule is bid approximately every 3 months
- Positions require working holidays and weekends
- Current schedule is four 10-hour days
- Schedule is subject to change

- Selected candidates will be required to successfully pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non-disclosure may result in dismissal
- Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screen results will be ineligible for appointment or application to any Provo City position for a minimum period of six months
