Job Summary

Welcome to the SLCC Community!!

The adjunct faculty member will work with full-time faculty, under general supervision of the Associate Dean, in program and class-related duties such as classroom (including online) instruction, content design and delivery, and student evaluation. You will teach college-level courses in the Humanities, Philosophy, and/or World Religions, in accordance with qualifications, for the Humanities & Languages Division of Salt Lake Community College.

Samples of courses currently taught include Introduction to Humanities, Introduction to Philosophy, Social Ethics, Reasoning and Rational Decision-Making, and World Religions.

This is a pooled position. The department reviews applications as positions become available.

This position is paid at $1,056 per instructional unit.

  • In accordance with SLCC policy, adjunct positions are offered on a semester-by-semester basis with no guarantee of continued employment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Becomes familiar with and follows the current course curriculum outlines, and engages in accepted best pedagogical practices to maximize student learning.
  • Collaborates with the course lead/mentor and other instructors to ensure consistency in course syllabi, pedagogy, assignments, ePortfolio work, testing, grading, and so forth.
  • Supports the College’s mission, vision, and values by incorporating appropriate cultural material representing a broad variety of ethnicities, national origins, socioeconomic groups and other identities, in additional to using inclusive pedagogical practices in the classroom.
  • Maintains accurate and complete student attendance records, grades, and other classroom documentation as applicable. Grades must be maintained on the College’s learning management system.
  • Meets with course mentor and/or the hiring supervisor as needed.
  • Responds to department inquiries and emails promptly, usually with 2 business days.
  • Becomes familiar with, and abides by, all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the organization.
  • Maintains professional etiquette in communications with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Provides appropriate and timely feedback for all assignments.
  • Returns graded assignments in a timely fashion per department standards.
  • Maintains student attendance records (for Financial Aid and departmental purposes) and grades.
  • Conducts a variety of appropriate evaluations of student performance.
  • Informs students of progress-to-date periodically and assigns and submits grades by published deadlines.
  • Assists in maintaining a safe and mutually respectful instructional environment.
  • Prepares and submits incident reports to Dean of Student Services for inappropriate student behavior as defined by the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities Policy.
  • Maintains professional and collegial behavior.
  • Handles/responds to student concerns/complaints, and responds to student communications and inquiries promptly (generally within 2 business days).
  • Maintains professional appearance as defined by the discipline and/or College procedure.
  • Completes all required employee trainings in a timely fashion.
