The Mission of the Ballard Center for Social Impact at BYU is to develop the faith and skills to solve social problems. Our primary methodology for achieving this aim is mentored student leadership. Through research, education, and practical experience, we empower students to leverage their diverse skills and insights to address pressing social problems.
Experience:
Applicants should be enthusiastic and well-versed in social impact work-increasing human flourishing and decreasing human suffering-and empowering students to create value in organizations wanting to make positive changes.
We are looking for 3+ years of experience working in a social impact setting in at least one of the following: social entrepreneurship ventures, regional/domestic/global nonprofits, corporate social responsibility initiatives, and government social services/policy/interventions/evaluation.
Duties/Expectations:
This position is for six scheduled hours each week, starting Spring Term 2026, with at least four of those hours spent on campus in the Ballard Center. That time will be spent mentoring Ballard Center student employees in the following paths:
* Business for Good team
* Pursuit of a career in social impact
* Application of a social impact lens in a particular field (e.g. biology, videography, engineering)
* The exercise of social impact and faith skills in solving problems as part of active citizenship and/or discipleship
Key Responsibilities:
This adjunct will teach, moderate, advise, and mentor students outside the classroom. In particular, this position will spend significant time and effort mentoring the Business for Good team and occasionally work with the 100+ Ballard student employees to:
* Expand the reach of the Ballard student employee seeking graduate programs, internships, and jobs in government, nonprofit, and business, specifically connected to social impact
* Oversee specific services and programs of the Ballard Center, such as the Business for Good team, help build our internal and external partnerships, Ballard Brief research, social impact start-up ventures, internships, faith-based collaborations, etc.)
* Assist in occasional classroom instruction (including, but not limited to, the Social Impact Careers class) utilizing industry expertise and networks
Student Mentoring and Teaching:
* Mentor and guide students in their decision-making as they consider social impact, next steps in graduate school, professions, and community work
* Provide support and encouragement for students working on Ballard Center programs
Shared Expertise:
* Deliver and facilitate occasional engaging and informative lectures on area or industry expertise, with discussion, case studies, and interactive activities to enhance student learning
* Incorporate real-world examples and industry best practices into the work and conversation of the Ballard Center
* Help Ballard Center employees establish and maintain connections and networks with industry professionals who hold social impact roles
Oversee a Ballard Program:
* Work with a Student Director of a Ballard Program to build quality and professionalism in the execution of Spring/Summer programs
* Meet regularly to offer feedback on strategy and accountability
* Offer professional development through supervision and mentoring of specific projects and programs, connecting to the overall Ballard Center strategy
* Work under the direction of Ballard Center Stewardship Council
