Job Summary /Basic FunctionMLS Lab/Teaching assistants help in maintaining the labs used for student training in the department. They help in training students in the courses they have already finished. They may assist with the preparation of media and reagents used in the labs, as well as help maintain the lab equipment. They may assist the instructor in training students by reviewing course information and helping to teach lab skills to the students.
This is a pooled position. Applicants are selected from the pool as positions become available. After a period of time, the pool will expire and applicants will be notified.
Required QualificationsApplicants must be current MLS students who have been accepted to the MLS program. Students typically work 5-20 hours per week and cannot exceed 20 hours. 1 to 2 semesters of MLS Laboratory sections completed. Experience working with various types of lab equipment and analyzers.

The screening of applicants will begin immediately. Due to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), individuals who have worked in a salaried capacity for Weber State University are ineligible to be hired as an hourly or adjunct employee at Weber State for six months.
This position is 50/50 eligible; students must be enrolled full-time and have at least a 2.0 GPA to qualify.

Physical Activity of this positionThis position may involve bending, standing for sustained periods, and moving about between work sites; duties may include handling, lifting, and positioning objects. The description below is provided for general guidance and may not be all-inclusive.
Physical Requirements of this positionHeavy work:
Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Visual acuity requirements including color, depth perception, and field of vision. Required to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; using a computer terminal; extensive reading.
The worker is subject to hazards and to atmospheric conditions, including proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, exposure to chemicals, fumes, odors, dust, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.
