Required Degree:

MA in Spanish Pedagogy, Applied Linguistics, Education, or related field. At least one degree (BA, MA, PhD) must be in Spanish. Foreign degrees accepted.

The required degree must be completed by the start date.

Experience:

Professional experience in teaching Spanish at the K-12 or at the university level, and near-native fluency in written and spoken Spanish are required. Experience teaching beginning and intermediate levels, and familiarity/skill with online teaching and/or technology is a plus.

Duties/Expectations:

• May teach one or more undergraduate Spanish pedagogy, language, literature, or culture courses, including:
  • SPAN 321:
    Third-Year Spanish Reading, Grammar, and Culture
  • SPAN 376:
    Techniques of Spanish Instruction
  • SPAN 377:
    Spanish Teaching Methods 1
• May work in the Spanish Writing and Grammar Lab.
• May coordinate student teaching placements with BYU and K-12 schools.
• May conduct observation visits for secondary Spanish and K-12 Spanish Dual Language Immersion preservice teachers in public schools.
• Attend meetings, trainings, professional development sessions, and other required events (required).
• Hold office hours and communicate with students, faculty, and office staff via email (required).
• Participate in the annual Foreign Language Fair (required).
• May teach at the SLC Center, BYU Online, or Evening School, if needed.
