Roles and Responsibilities:
Behind the wheel instructors work with students who are learning to operate a motor vehicle. They provide constructive individual feedback and assist students in acquiring safe driving skills toward obtaining a Utah driver license. Instructors facilitate hands‑on driving with students behind the wheel, monitor progress, and help apply driving concepts into practice.
- Upload a current Utah Secondary teaching license with a Driver and Safety Education endorsement
- No AEL candidates will be accepted for this position
- Maintain a “Satisfactory driving record” as defined in Utah Administrative Rule R277‑311
- Current first‑aid/CPR certification—proof required at interview
- Current 8 hours of USBE‑approved professional development (recorded at USBE)
- Proof of PD hours demonstrated on a MIDAS transcript—required at interview
- Clean driving record and current Utah Driver’s License
- ESL endorsement preferred
- Administration of Utah State Road Driving Exam to students
- Successful experience driving students in behind‑the‑wheel instruction
- Experience and knowledge using DEMS
- Experience scheduling behind‑the‑wheel driving with students, parents, and other instructors
- Experience supervising student “range” driving behind the wheel
- Use and implement approved curriculum maps
- Evaluate student driving progress through formal and informal assessments
- Communicate student progress to parents through various formats
- Use DEMS
- Knowledge of Utah Driver Education Curriculum
- Knowledge of USBE and Granite School District Driver Education policies and procedures
- Work collaboratively within Granite School District Driver Education staff, parents, teachers, and students
- Build a positive relationship with students, school staff, administration, business partners, parents, and the community
- Maintain program traditions and work with involved communities
Under the direction of the Curriculum Department, the classroom teacher is responsible for creating a positive learning environment where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners, and productive citizens. Teachers maintain a safe environment; establish rapport with students, parents and colleagues; motivate students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for further education and do so in accordance with each student's ability.
Teachers differentiate curriculum and use effective research‑based methods of instruction.
- Teach the core content area(s) outlined in the USBE’s Core Curriculum and adopted by the Board of Education, correlating with other approved learning activities
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small‑group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of the child
- Utilize effective teaching techniques to translate lesson plans into productive student learning experiences, best utilizing the instructional time available
- Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment in student instruction
- Supervise students in indoor and outdoor responsibilities (e.g., recess duty, gymnasium activities) in all types of weather and air quality
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom through organization and appropriate discipline strategies
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports
- Implement proficiency‑based learning in evaluating students’ achievement

- Communicate with parents through conferences, telephone calls, e‑mails, student planners, school website, and other appropriate means to discuss student progress
