Ballard Center for Social Impact

The mission of the Ballard Center for Social Impact in the BYU Marriott School of Business is to develop the faith and skills to solve social problems. Our primary methodology for achieving this aim is mentored student leadership. Through research, education, and practical experience, we empower students to leverage their diverse skills and insights to address pressing social problems.

Social Impact Projects (SIP) is an on-campus internship program and 3-credit class (GCI 425R, formerly MSB 492R) that enables students to collaborate in small teams on innovative projects for social impact organizations locally and globally. The course provides practical experience through internships and problem-solving with social innovation practitioners across nonprofit, for-profit, and government sectors. It integrates classwork on social impact methods, project management, and implementation to support student internships.

Responsibilities:
Teach GCI 425R:
Social Impact Projects course for undergraduate students  adjunct faculty member will be responsible for the following:

Leadership and Management:

* Provide leadership and mentorship to a staff of 10+ student employees responsible for individual SIP teams. These are essentially teaching assistants for the class, who are also students who have taken and excelled in the internship class and now consult with assigned teams.

* Work with the SIP student director to develop and improve the curriculum, manage TAs, grow the program, and oversee internships.

* Foster a collaborative and empowering culture among student employees and teams.

* Set clear goals and expectations for employees and teams, and regularly monitor progress.

* Ensure the work is aligned with the mission and goals of the Ballard Center.

* Consult and collaborate with other section instructors.

Process Improvement:

* Collaborate with student employees to develop and refine processes that streamline internship operations and improve their impact.

* Identify opportunities for innovation and growth within the SIP program.

* Implement best practices for managing SIP.

Communication and

Collaboration:

* Serve as a liaison between the student employees and the Ballard Center staff.

* Facilitate regular communication and collaboration among student employees to share insights and resources.

* Organize meetings and workshops to enhance leadership and management skills within the SIP program.

Project Support:

* Provide guidance and support to internship teams in executing their specific projects.

* Assist in the planning and execution of events, workshops, and initiatives related to SIP projects.

Partner Maintenance and Management

* Work with the Ballard Center strategic relationships team to do outreach to best-practice organizations and assess interest in participating in SIP.

* Communicate with external internship partners on expectations of the class, partner meetings, and any concerns about the program before and during the class.

* Maintain positive relationships with past, present, and future partners.

Reporting and Evaluation:

* Collect data and feedback from the student supervisor and employees to assess the impact and effectiveness of the SIP program.

* Collaborate with the student director to determine program measurement and growth goals.

* Oversee the preparation of regular reports on team activities and outcomes for the Ballard Center leadership.

Qualifications:

* Master's Degree. Master of Public Administration preferred (must have required degree by the start date).

* 3+ years of experience working in a social impact setting at a nonprofit organization, social enterprise, public agency, or corporation.

* Teaching experience is highly preferred.

* Strong passion for social impact and a demonstrated commitment to addressing social problems.

* Exceptional leadership, communication, and team management skills.

* Ability to work collaboratively and build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.

* Excellent problem-solving and organizational abilities.
