Granite Peaks
- Hourly (up to 29 hours) ESL Teacher
The successful applicant will be an employee of Granite School District
- Granite Peaks Department and will currently be teaching students who are acquiring English Language skills.
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Utah Professional teaching license (Secondary or Elementary) or a current Secondary or Elementary out-of-state professional level license required.
- ESL or TESOL endorsement required.
- Teacher must have full charge of the classroom and be the teacher of record.
- Must teach during regular school hours (not prior to school or after school).
- Strong Math, Social Studies, Science, and Language Arts skills.
- At least 3 years full‑time teaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge of or experience teaching the GED curriculum preferred.
- Must be able to teach a multi‑leveled class.
- Must be able to use Microsoft Office and Google Docs.
- Must be able to take a lesson framework and build a curriculum that meets diverse student needs.
- Must be able to teach in an open enrollment setting where new students are added weekly.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- This is a part‑time position; there are no benefits.
- The position begins as soon as a qualified applicant is hired.
- Teach College and Career Readiness Standards for English Language Arts and Literacy and for Mathematics as outlined by the USBE.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to each learner’s needs.
- Utilize effective teaching techniques in translating lesson plans into productive student learning experiences.
- Utilize computers and other technological classroom support equipment.
- Establish and maintain standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, maintain appropriate records, and prepare progress reports.
- Be familiar with and willing to implement the Granite Way.
- Communicate and cooperate with other professional staff regarding students’ academic and personal growth areas.
- Attendance, physical presence, and timeliness are essential functions.
- Provide and maintain a safe and supportive environment in the classroom.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service education activities and self‑selected professional growth activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings as required.
- Administer appropriate student attendance policies and procedures.
- Participate in appropriate educator evaluation procedures as per district guidelines.
- Model professional and ethical standards when dealing with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Understand and adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
- Maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, school staff, district staff, and community members.
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Be a positive role model.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong computer and educational technological skills.
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.

- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah within the relevant licensure area of concentration and any applicable endorsement.
- Tasks may involve extended periods at a keyboard or workstation.
Requires ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Reach with hands and arms; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects. Talk or hear. Vision: close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception. May involve moving and lifting supplies, equipment, etc. up to 25 pounds and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
