Position Overview:

The mission of the Ballard Center for Social Impact in the BYU Marriott School of Business is to develop the faith and skills to solve social problems. Our primary methodology for achieving this aim is mentored student leadership. Through research, education, and practical experience, we empower students to leverage their diverse skills and insights to address pressing social problems.

We are seeking an adjunct faculty member with significant professional and consulting experience in impact investing, blended finance, or catalytic capital to teach Advanced Impact Investing.

This course builds on foundational impact investing concepts and focuses on structuring, negotiating, and managing complex financial instruments that blend public, private, and philanthropic capital to achieve social and environmental outcomes. Students learn through applied projects, case studies, and simulations of deal structuring and term sheet negotiation.

Responsibilities:

Teach one section (3 credit hours) of Advanced Impact Investing (GCI 448) per academic year.

Develop and deliver a curriculum focused on advanced deal structuring, blended finance mechanisms, catalytic capital, and outcome-based instruments (e.g., SIBs, DIBs, SIINCs).Guide students in evaluating and modeling investment opportunities using real-world cases and datasets.

Incorporate industry-standard frameworks for risk/return analysis and impact measurement.

Bring practitioner insight to classroom discussions through case simulations, guest speakers, or live consulting engagements.

Collaborate with the Ballard Center to connect student projects with real client or investor networks when appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

A law degree or master’s degree or higher with a focus in finance, economics, development, business administration, or a related field. The required degree must be completed by the start date.

At least 5 years of senior professional experience in impact investing, blended finance, investment banking, development finance, or fund management.

Proven ability to teach or mentor professionals and graduate students in applied finance and impact contexts.

Commitment to the mission and values of Brigham Young University.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience consulting for DFIs, foundations, or catalytic investors.

Track record of published work, speaking, or field leadership in impact finance.

Familiarity with instruments such as sustainability-linked loans/bonds, securitization of impact assets, or recoverable grants.

Prior teaching or facilitation experience in MBA, MPA, or executive education environments.
