English – Professional Writing, Rhetoric, or English Teaching, Faculty CFS Professional

Duties and Expectations

• Teaching (70%)
  • Ten‑month annual contract with 8 courses per year: 4 fall, 3 winter, 1 spring/summer.
  • Teach undergraduate and graduate courses in writing or rhetoric, including core English and general‑education courses.
  • Teach with intentionality to build faith in Jesus Christ and testimony of the restored gospel.
  • Commit to innovative teaching focused on student growth and lifelong learning.
• Professional Development (10%)
  • Participate in professional development, engage in the field’s research, and implement best practices.
• Citizenship (20%)
  • Serve on department, college, and university committees, and in professional organizations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and other academic discussions.
  • Advise students in formal and informal areas (academic, career, etc.).
  • Support the mission of the English Department and Brigham Young University; support student faith through commitment to the religious expectations of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints.

• PhD in rhetoric, professional writing, teaching, or a related field, completed by the start date.
• Current collegiate‑level in‑person teaching record in rhetoric, composition, or education.
• Evidence of professional development in the field.
• Preferred experience teaching multiple types of composition, including first‑year writing, writing about humanities, persuasive writing, writing for education majors, writing in the social sciences, and technical communication.
• Must reside in the state of Utah and teach in‑person classes.
• If a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter‑day Saints, must hold a current temple recommend.
• All faculty must abide by the university’s Honor Code and Dress & Grooming Standards.
