The Scholarly Publishing Assistant plays a key role in assisting the Scholarly Publishing Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of Scholars Archive, Brigham Young University’s institutional repository for faculty and student research. This position manages assigned projects, ensures efficient publication workflows, helps to train student employees in routine library publishing projects for the Scholars Archive platform, and serves as the frontline customer service representative of the Scholarly Publishing unit.

• Manage projects as assigned by the Scholarly Publishing Manager. Including but not limited to:
• Processing electronic theses, dissertations, and honors theses each semester
• Managing ongoing student employee projects, such as the Faculty CV upload project
• Uploading one-off issues for established student-run journals in Scholars Archive
• Assist with the training, mentoring, and supervision of Scholarly Publishing student employees

• Serve as the first point of contact for the general Scholarly Publishing email account, addressing inquiries about the program or the IR system, and making requested edits to repository items

• Schedule meetings for the Scholarly Publishing Manager with library and campus partners
• Compile monthly statistical reports and any one-off data report requests from Scholars Archive

• Model professional and collegial behavior including participation in meetings, committees, and task forces assignments as invited
• Engage in appropriate professional development activities to stay current in the field

• High school diploma with a minimum one year of experience working in a library OR one year of supervisory experience

• Bachelor’s degree with one year of experience in publishing, library services, customer service, or project management and one year of supervisory experience

• Ability to follow established procedures and to perform work requiring meticulous attention to detail
• Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and complete projects in a timely and efficient manner
• Demonstrated ability to learn new software applications
• Demonstrated ability in making independent and logical decisions

• Experience with library systems such as Digital Commons or with web content management systems
• Experience in using Adobe Acrobat, MS Excel, and digitization software
• Experience in managing timebound projects
• Experience supervising or training young adults

Typical Starting Pay: $20.25-$26.50
