Credit Union Loan Officer

Analyze credit and collateral risk for portfolio loan products to support responsible lending decisions and protect the safety and soundness of the credit union. Evaluate loan risks, identify compensating factors, and determine whether loan requests meet established underwriting standards, procedures, and policy requirements. Present loan requests that exceed lending authority for approval in accordance with loan policy. Facilitate timely, accurate, and efficient loan delivery while maintaining a positive experience for members and prospective members.

Ensure members and prospective members are served promptly, professionally, and with a focus on their financial needs. Promote and recommend appropriate loan products and loan protection products based on member needs and eligibility. Partner with and train loan officers and home equity officers to strengthen understanding of loan processes, products, underwriting expectations, and member experience standards.

Bring a two-year degree or equivalent work experience, with additional coursework in business or a related field preferred. Have at least three years of loan officer or underwriting experience, ideally within consumer, residential, or home equity lending. Understand financial statements, credit reports, tax returns, appraisals, and related financial documentation. Apply sound knowledge of credit union loan services, policies, procedures, and required loan documentation.

Maintain awareness of applicable legal and regulatory standards that guide lending and underwriting decisions. Analyze credit applications and related financial data with accuracy, consistency, and sound judgment. Support safe lending practices that help maintain delinquency and write-off ratios in line with credit union objectives. Prepare accurate, timely reports and documentation to support efficient lending and home equity operations. Build strong working relationships with loan personnel, area teams, and management while providing support and guidance as needed.

Use related computer applications effectively to complete underwriting, documentation, reporting, and communication tasks.

Loan requests are evaluated, reviewed, underwritten, and documented accurately, promptly, and in alignment with established credit union policies and lending authority. Credit applications, borrower financial information, income, assets, collateral, and property documentation are thoroughly analyzed to support sound lending decisions. Underwriting decisions consistently reflect program requirements, credit union standards, and applicable legal and regulatory requirements. Loans are approved, denied, or escalated appropriately, with applicants and loan personnel receiving timely communication and clear requests for additional information when needed.

Home equity final approvals are supported by complete, accurate, and verified documentation. Reports, records, files, and loan documentation are completed promptly, accurately, and maintained in good order. Loan officers, home equity officers, support personnel, and area teams receive helpful guidance, coaching, training, and support when application or underwriting questions arise. Management is kept informed of area activities, significant issues, and opportunities to improve underwriting policies, procedures, and workflows.

Members, external lending professionals, governmental agencies, and internal partners receive accurate information, professional service, and timely problem resolution. Knowledge of underwriting requirements, software applications, economic conditions, and legal or regulatory changes remains current and is applied effectively in daily work. Credit union services are cross-sold professionally and appropriately based on member needs. Assigned duties, special projects, and area support needs are completed reliably, including maintaining a clean, secure, and well-organized work area and working a regular, predictable schedule.

Compensation will be based on experience, qualifications, and market alignment. The total package includes a competitive base salary, annual incentive opportunity tied to personal and organizational performance, and comprehensive benefits consistent with UCCU's commitment to its employees.
