The Utah Department of Corrections has a current opening for a Correctional Officer in the Division of Prison Operations, Inmate Placement Program at the Uintah County Jail in Vernal, Utah.   • With a two‑year commitment as a Correctional Officer at UDC you will receive a $6,000 signing bonus ($3,000 upon completion of initial on‑the‑job training and a second $3,000 on the first anniversary).

Pay Plan Rates

Step 1: $30.75, Step 2: $31.60, Step 3: $32.47, Step 4: $33.36, Step 5: $34.28, Step 6: $35.22, Step 7: $36.19, Step 8: $37.19, Step 9: $38.21, Step 10: $39.27.

Principal Duties
  • Perform security and custody duties, including inmate supervision, cell searches, skin searches, inspections, inmate movement, and preparing inmate incident and disciplinary reports.
  • Review, investigate documents, process grievances and complaints, and implement disciplinary actions.
  • Obtain and execute warrants, conduct searches, raids and investigations, and maintain proper chain of evidence.
  • Conduct risk assessments (LSRNR).
  • Create case action plans (CAP) and work with offenders to achieve goals.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state laws, regulations, agency rules, standards, and guidelines.
  • Work closely with allied agencies housing state offenders.
The Ideal Candidate
  • Is certified as a Correctional Officer.
  • Has two years of progressively responsible professional experience in corrections, behavioral or social sciences, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of counseling and guidance principles and techniques.
  • Written and spoken knowledge of the English language.
  • Knowledge of theories of personality and deviant behavior, delinquency, criminology and corrections.
  • Ability to administer assessments, create case action plans, and draft reports.
  • Knowledge of stratification, sociology of the family, racial and cultural minorities, urban sociology and social problems.
  • Knowledge of research techniques and the writing of professional reports.
  • Present effective interpretations of programming and operational policies and procedures, both verbally and in writing.
  • Exercises good judgement based on previous training and experience.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with offenders, institutional staff, administrative personnel, and community‑based programs and services.
  • Has high standards and a good work ethic.
Requirements
  • POST certified SFO and BCO at the time of application.
  • New hire employees in certified positions shall not have any tattoos above the shirt collar line, which includes anywhere on the neck, head, and face.
  • Valid driver’s license required to drive a motor vehicle on a highway in Utah per UCA 53-3-202(a)(a).
  • Only applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to test.
