Firefighter/Paramedic Lateral
Position Title:
Firefighter/Paramedic Lateral
Compensation:
Lateral Transfer Hiring Range: $67,722–$102,741
- Respond to emergency and fire scenes.
- Provide medical aid.
- Participate in fire suppression activities and hazardous materials operations.
- Operate equipment and vehicles such as pumps, nozzles, ladders, hydrants, extinguishers, generators.
- Search for and rescue victims from buildings, autos, mountains.
- Participate in post‑emergency salvage operations and cleanup.
- Assist in pre‑fire planning and development of property maps and sketches.
- Clean and maintain firefighting equipment, station and grounds.
- Participate in drills and training sessions.
- Assist in educating the public.
- Perform other related duties as required.
High school diploma or GED; current Paramedic license (Utah State Bureau of EMS standards) and employment in that capacity within the last 6 months;
Firefighter I & II certifications (NFPA and Utah Fire and Rescue Academy standards); valid Utah State driver license.
Lateral transfers may be hired at Firefighter/Paramedic, Senior Firefighter/Paramedic, or Master Firefighter/Paramedic level depending on qualifications.
- Firefighter Paramedic: minimum 2 years full‑time experience as a medical response firefighter.
- Senior Firefighter Paramedic: minimum 5 years experience as a medical response firefighter, 2 years as a certified paramedic; plus ADO‑A, ADO‑P, Fire Instructor I, Company Officer Inspector certifications.
- Master Firefighter Paramedic: minimum 9 years experience as a medical response firefighter; required certifications:
Fire Instructor I, Fire Officer I, Fire Inspector I, Apparatus Driver Operator‑Aerial (ADO‑A), Apparatus Driver Operator‑Pump (ADO‑P).
Lateral hires have one year from hire date to complete certificate and testing requirements; can also qualify as Engineers.
Selection ProcessOpen file posting. Applications reviewed in the order received. Minimum 60‑day file retention. Candidates meeting minimum requirements must pass a physical test (CPAT) before a Command Staff interview. Offer conditional on background investigation and drug screening.
