Donation Program Coordinator I

This is an on-site position at Utah Valley Hospital. The schedule is Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

The Donation Program Coordinator I (DPC I) works with a designated hospital in the Donor Connect service area to increase organ and tissue donation. The DPC I is responsible for the development and maintenance of professional relationships with hospital contacts, the coordination and execution of general educational activities, the maintenance and facilitation of the strategic plan for donation performance improvements, and the sustained implementation of donation best practices within their designated hospital(s).
Through the ongoing assessment of hospital performance data, the coordinator will build a knowledge base of their hospital's donor potential, people, functions, and processes. The Donation Program Coordinator will use this knowledge base to strengthen their assigned hospital's donation program.
In collaboration with organ, tissue, and family services departments, the coordinator assists with the clinical evaluation of potential donor patients, collaboration with hospital staff in the preservation of donation options, and the presentation of donation options to legal next-of-kin/family for organ and tissue donation. The coordinator is expected to spend most working hours in the hospital(s) carrying out the above responsibilities and other activities such as donation follow-up, process variance resolution, and real-time activities and education.
The Donation Program Coordinator I is responsible for developing and maintaining strong working relationships with key hospital partners at all levels of the organization, determining hospital partner needs relative to the donor process, and developing and implementing strategies and action plans to maximize donation. The coordinator is responsible for establishing and maintaining effective communication and collaboration between Donor Connect and assigned hospital leadership.
Assumes responsibility for the coordination and execution of general educational activities and will conduct professional education presentations on organ and tissue donation and assist with the development of educational materials as needed. Establishes and leads the Donor Council in their assigned hospital. Is responsible for the maintenance and facilitation of the strategic plan for donation performance improvements and the sustained implementation of donation best practices within their designated transplant center.
Assumes responsibility for rounding on all critical care units while on shift to identify patients that have met clinical triggers and necessitate a referral. This will be done with the intent to educate and support hospital staff to identify and refer patients independently. Advocates with hospital staff, especially the trauma team, to preserve the option of organ donation. In collaboration with Administrator on Call (AOC), the coordinator will gather appropriate clinical details to allow the AOC to evaluate potential organ donors through objective clinical information.
Assists in developing a plan for the approach conversation in collaboration with the Family Services team, the Organ team, the Hospital Services team, physicians, and hospital staff.
