Position: Athletic Training Assistant (part-time, 28 hours/week)

Athletic Training Assistant

Provide Injury Evaluation, Diagnosis, Treatment, Rehabilitation, Conditioning Assessment and Conditioning Programs for:
Dance Majors (BFA, Ed, BA), MDT Majors, Dance Faculty, Primary Performance Company Members, and Secondary Performance Company members. Emergency assessment and care and appropriate referral as needed to injured dancers in dance classes. Provide evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and performance decisions during performances. Teach/supervise Athletic Training graduate students. Help maintain the safety and cleanliness of the facility. Tour support as needed.

Assist the Director of Dance Medicine and Wellness Facility as needed.

What you'll do in this position:

Injury Evaluation and Diagnosis

  • Evaluate and Diagnose acute and chronic injuries for dancers using special tests, manual muscle testing, goniometer measurements, concussion protocols, etc.

Injury Treatment and Rehabilitation

  • Create and follow treatment and rehabilitation plans for injured dancers.
  • Supervise injured dancers in their rehabilitation programs
  • Utilize advanced skills – Myofascial release, muscle energy, positional release techniques, instrument assisted soft tissue mobilizations, total motion release to provide high-quality treatment for injuries

Supervise and teach/train Athletic Training Graduate Students

  • Supervise Athletic Training graduate students in their evaluation, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of dancers' injuries
  • Teach/Train Athletic Training graduate students in the advanced manual therapy techniques used in the Dance Medicine and Wellness Facility
  • Supervise Athletic Training graduate students in performance environment

Prompt Documentation

  • Document all injury evaluations, treatments and rehabilitations in the electronic medical record system
  • Ensure that all dancers' documentation is complete and insurance active prior to respective appointments
  • Abide by all federal and state laws.

Administration duties assigned by Director of Dance Medicine and Wellness Facility

  • Help create and maintain Social Media presence, including, but not limited to, account updates, content posts, response to inquiries, general maintenance of accounts
  • Create and maintain up-to-date posters, brochures, home-care hand-outs, etc. as needed
  • Conduct inventory and assist with ordering supplies and equipment
  • Create and maintain various reports as requested

Teach classes within the Dance department as requested by faculty

  • Teach foam rolling classes, self-care classes, strength training classes, general injury prevention
  • Conditioning assessment and program development

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Bachelor's degree in athletic training,
  • BOC certification
  • Utah licensure or eligible for Utah licensure
  • CPR/AED certification

Preferred:

  • 2-5 years of experience as a certified Athletic Trainer OR 1-2 years experience in the performing arts as a certified Athletic Trainer; training in manual therapy techniques, including (but not limited to) myofascial release, positional release, muscle energy techniques, Ortho-bionomy and/or instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization techniques.
  • Ortho-Bionomy
  • John Barnes' Myofascial release technique
  • Positional Release Therapy
  • Graston certification
  • Functional Movement Screen (FMS) certification

Pay Grade: 50

Typical Starting Pay: $25.00 to $32.50 an hour
