& Reporting Analyst for BYU Graduate Studies - (Part‑time 28 hrs/wk)
Note, that this is a 3/4‑time (part‑time) staff position at 28 hours per week.
The primary purpose of the Data & Reporting Analyst position is to create, maintain, and report data with regards to all aspects of operations across the Graduate Studies department.
This position is responsible for ensuring that the data needs of the department are satisfied, plus kept both current and accurate, through an in‑depth understanding of the various technology platforms that are currently utilized by the department and university. This position will collaborate with a wide variety of data consumers – which include university leadership, faculty, administrators, other data analysts, developers, and programmers, etc.
The position will interpret and present data from multiple sources using a variety of analytical techniques, ranging from preliminary data aggregation to complex statistical analysis.
- Create various reports containing information relating to university, college, and department operations that span the entire graduate student life cycle from prospective applicant through to alumni.
- Maintain and oversee the reporting of all annual internal and external reports pertaining to graduate student enrollment and advisement through to graduation – including but not limited to the Graduate Program Annual Report and Unit Reviews.
- Provide data tables and figures using Tableau, Excel, and other data visualization tools for print and web publications, which are both accurate and easily interpreted by multiple end users.
- Ensure that the appropriate protocols are in place to protect the dissemination of graduate student data.
- Write and maintain standardized data queries/scripts to extract data from the university data warehouse – in addition to ad‑hoc queries as directed in collaboration with BYU developers.
- Assist the BYU Graduate Studies IT & Data Manager with the critical assessment and/or implementation of systems related to the department’s technical needs, processes, data consumption, and reporting.
- Aid in the training of graduate programs with regards to their own data needs.
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Information Management, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Business Analytics, or a related field – or an equivalent combination of work experience and/or education.
- MUST be proficient with Tableau and SQL, along with a strong understanding of relational databases and database querying.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem‑solving skills, including the ability to come to conclusions based on findings.
- Comfortable managing communications with multiple departments to gather all necessary data.
- Experience with Tableau and other data visualization tools.
- Experience translating data and trends into meaningful insights and stories.
- Basic working knowledge of Python for data analysis and reporting.
