Job Description What You’ll Do In This Position
  • Strive to maintain the University Buildings & Grounds through efficient and effective paint practices.
  • Follow all safety procedures and keep accurate records.
  • Select and mix paints for desired color and finish.
  • Complete projects on time and within budget.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from BYU faculty, staff and students.
  • Coordinate work with other BYU shops and collaborate as necessary.
  • Maintain cleanliness of working area.
  • Complete and stay up to date with all trainings.
Required Level I
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ painting experience.
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials.
  • Basic knowledge of painting techniques and tools as well as attention to detail.
  • Attention to detail and good communication skills.
Required Level II
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of painting experience, preferably in a university setting.
  • Experience supervising and mentoring other painters.
  • Experience working on large projects.
  • Knowledge of painting techniques, tools, and materials.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and customers.
  • Strong organizational and problem‑solving skills.

Salary and Pay Grade

Level I:
Pay Grade 50 – Typical Starting Pay: $25.00 to $32.50 an hour.

Level II:
Pay Grade 51 – Typical Starting Pay: $28.25 to $36.25 an hour.
