Schedule:
Overnight shifts (8:00 p.m. – 8:00 a.m.), 2 nights per week including holidays, with some flexibility.
Status:
Seasonal, Part-Time (up to 26 hrs./week)
Compensation: $18.00 per hour
Position SummaryUnder the direction of the Housing Director and the supervision of the Warming Center Coordinator and Supervisor, the Warming Center Support Staff help operate the Warming Center during overnight shifts. This role is essential to maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for individuals experiencing homelessness during the winter season.
Administrative Responsibilities- Create a Safe and Welcoming Environment
- Welcome and assist unsheltered community members seeking overnight refuge.
- Build positive relationships with guests through friendship and fellowship to foster a supportive and respectful atmosphere.
- Monitor guest safety inside and outside the center; ensure compliance with rules and community expectations in a consistent, trauma‑informed manner.
- Work collaboratively and respectfully with onsite law enforcement, other staff, and volunteers to maintain a safe and secure environment, while also being able to work independently as needed.
- Respond to and de‑escalate conflicts; provide crisis intervention to ensure the safety of guests, volunteers, and staff.
- Operate and Maintain the Facility
- Perform nightly setup and morning teardown, including distributing bedding and supplies, restocking, cleaning restrooms/kitchen areas, sweeping, mopping, trash removal, and light snow removal from walkways.
- Maintain the parking lot area, keeping it clear of hazards and monitoring activity to support safety and compliance.
- Organize and maintain the storage pod and inventory supplies regularly, ensuring items are labeled, accessible, in good condition, and restocked as needed.
- Support Volunteers and Communication
- Support volunteers, ensure all volunteer paperwork is completed, and confirm that volunteer assignments are being carried out.
- Document nightly activities, incidents, and supply needs; report to the Warming Center Coordinator and Supervisor after each shift.
- Attend all required staff meetings and trainings.
- Follow Policies and Uphold Standards
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all guest and staff information.
- Provide advocacy, education, and referrals for community resources as appropriate.
- Adhere to all Warming Center policies, procedures, and safety protocols.
- Represent the organization professionally and respectfully at all times.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Willingness and ability to work long overnight shifts consistently.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills; ability to remain calm under pressure.
- Ability to build rapport and work respectfully with individuals from diverse and vulnerable backgrounds.
- Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and follow crisis intervention protocols.
- Basic computer skills; familiarity with data entry systems, Google Drive, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Experience working with at‑risk or vulnerable populations (6–12 months preferred, but training available).
- Reliable transportation and schedule flexibility for training, outreach, and special projects.
- Good driving record and driver's license preferred.
- Volunteer management experience preferred but not required.
- Must pass BCI Background Check.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) a plus.
