Under minimal supervision, performs diagnostic and service work on residential and/or light commercial HVAC equipment and accessories. Communicates with customers to answer questions, resolve problems, and ensure complete customer satisfaction. Promotes products and services to the customer. Works under the direction of the Field Supervisor or General Manager.
Key Responsibilities- Perform residential and/or light commercial service and maintenance calls under minimal supervision.
- Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
- Diagnose and perform services on heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and accessories accurately and timely.
- Inspect equipment and perform diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks.
- Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as needed or required.
- Deliver and remove parts and equipment needed to complete service work.
- Use a hand‑held device to record all required information on customer call.
- Complete all forms and paperwork in a neat, timely, complete, and accurate manner.
- Collect payment from customer.
- Communicate with dispatch to ensure dispatcher has an accurate status report of activities and availability.
- Deliver excellent customer service and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Promote products and services to the customer and call Sales and Service Coordinator with specifics on replacement product sales leads generated from customer service visits.
- Ensure company property, vehicles, and tools are used, maintained, and properly accounted for.
- Represent the company professionally, honestly, and ethically in all business matters and activities.
- Follow standard procedures and processes, ensure the company vehicle is properly stocked, return defective warranty parts to the branch, and order/replenish vehicle stock as needed.
- Perform similar or other duties as needed or assigned.
- Maintain regular, reliable attendance.
- Report unsafe acts, conditions or hazards to the direct supervisor/manager immediately.
- Report contravention of legislation, company policy, procedure or program to the supervisor immediately.
- Correct substandard acts or conditions within area of control.
- Use and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as prescribed.
- Never remove or render ineffective any safety guards, devices or clothing prescribed to be in place or worn.
- Comply with general rules as prescribed by company programs or procedures.
- Operate devices or equipment as prescribed by company programs or procedures.
- Participate in safety initiatives, teams or committees.
- Report all injuries or incidents as prescribed immediately.
- Provide input on developing safety initiatives and plans to eliminate exposures that could cause accidents.
- Do not perform acts that may endanger the safety of others.
- Do not engage in pranks, contests or rough boisterous behavior.
- Work in compliance with applicable legislative requirements.
- Associate’s degree/Certification in HVAC or related field, or at least 5 years of previous experience.
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems; prior experience as an Installer, Maintenance or Service Technician.
- Ability to work independently and possess good problem‑solving skills.
- 5‑10 years’ experience in HVAC with technical training certification required.
- Must possess all valid licensing or certification as required by federal, state, provincial or local laws, EPA and safety certifications required.
- Skilled at servicing heating, air conditioning and ventilation equipment and related accessories.
- Proficient mechanical aptitude and ability to operate all necessary tools and equipment.
- Proficient at reading wiring diagrams and troubleshooting electrical, refrigerant and duct systems on HVAC equipment.
- Proficient at starting up, balancing airflow and aligning belts and pulleys on all systems with little to no supervision.
- Proficient at installing a basic duct fitting.
