Provo City is looking for a part‑time contract Victim Assistant to provide paraprofessional liaison work assisting victims of violent crime through social services and the legal system. This position involves supporting individuals who have been victims of domestic violence and other violent crimes.
CompensationPay Rate: $21.00 per hour (depending on qualifications). Part‑time employees may contribute to City savings plans (401k, 457, Roth IRA, Traditional IRA).

- Assist and support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, other crimes against persons, and violent crimes
- Collect information and assist victims in filling out reports, orders of protection, and other documents as needed
- Advise victims and next‑of‑kin of available resources and programs
- Assist victims and children through court procedures, including informing them of court dates, case status, scheduling appointments, assisting in preparation of trial testimony, and providing support
- Attend and coordinate weekly domestic violence court meetings
- Testify in court as needed and provide recommendations on reparations and restitution
- Attend daily police briefings
- Notify next‑of‑kin in cases involving death
- Perform other related duties as required
- Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, or a related field
- One year of experience in crisis intervention, victim assistance, law enforcement, or social services
- Valid, lawful driver’s license
- Provo City will honor equivalent combinations of related education/experience (each year of post‑secondary education or training substitutes for six months of experience)
The schedule is typically 8:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday, with variations. Advocates participate in an on‑call rotation for after‑hours responses one week per month. This contract is for one year, with expected extension based on funding.
Physical and Environmental FactorsThis role involves sitting at a desk or computer for long periods, maintaining attentive focus, speaking and listening in information exchanges, and occasional motor‑vehicle travel. Work is primarily indoors with occasional on‑scene travel. Exposure to stressful, emotionally charged situations may affect psychological or physiological health. Occasional exposure to adverse weather conditions and on‑scene responses at any time of day.
Selection ProcessApplications are reviewed in the order submitted. First screening occurs July 27, 2026. Applicants must meet minimum qualifications. Successful candidates must pass a drug screen and criminal background check. Non‑disclosure may result in dismissal. Applicants with unsatisfactory drug screening results are ineligible for any Provo City position for six months.
